USER INTERFACE DESIGN is a difficult thing to do well. It requires a designer to think on many levels at once. Visual appearance, user expectation, process and workflow, the patience level of likely users, the technological limitations of the selected development environment, and on and on. It’s a wonder to us that so many application developers expect engineers to just work this all out as they go along, or worse yet, stick it on at the very end to “pretty it up.” Interface design that is integral to the very conception of an application leads directly to improved clarity and efficiency.
